Decision follows criticism of Avigdor Lieberman's close personal contacts with major shareholder

Transportation Minister Avigdor Lieberman has removed himself from any connection with charter flight operator Flying Carpet, the minister's spokesman said yesterday.
The decision came following criticism leveled against Lieberman due to his close personal contacts with the company's major shareholder, Yaron Miller.
The charter flight sector had expressed concern over a potential conflict of interest given Lieberman's friendship with Miller, who had extended an office in Flying Carpet's building in Tel Aviv to Lieberman when he was just an MK.
Lieberman's spokesman Sheika Rosenfeld, said the minister and Miller had known each other since 1979, "when they were students in Jerusalem. Since according to law each MK is allowed a parliamentary office outside of Jerusalem, MK Lieberman opened his office in the same block as Flying Carpet. There was a rental contract between the MK and the company."
On becoming a cabinet minister, Rosenfeld continued, Lieberman "was no longer entitled to a parliamentary office outside the government's offices. Since taking on the appointment, [Lieberman] has not received, nor has received a request for, anything from Miller or his company. In the event of such a request, he will of course refrain from dealing with it, and it will be dealt with by the professional parties in the Transportation Ministry, as with any other request."
